Apparently viruses burn down towers

I don’t think I mentioned this fact before, but: I work for an ISP. More specifically, I work for an ISP that offers wireless service via a network of towers in _____ .

Occasionally we get some dopey customers that call in. Granted, I don’t work in the support department (I’m corporate), but I do talk to the network operation and tier 2 support guys pretty often, since they are in the same building, and we all join the company IRC channel.

So in today’s IRC channel conversation came a discussion about a customer who had her service suspended. J had told this customer that she most likely had a virus on her computer, and that virus had triggered our network protection systems and sent an alert. Acting on this alert, J had shut the customer off, telling her that she will be reactivated when she fixes her shit (well, not in those words exactly, but that is the general gist of it).

This customer happens to be a lying cunt, as it turns out. Later that day, tier 2 gets a call from her husband. The husband said that we told his wife that their “computer generated a virus and it caused two towers to burn down”.

So there you have it folks, viruses burn down towers.
